It is with great pride that A Willing Participant, Inc., announces picking up a "Gold Winner" award at the 39th Annual Telly Awards.
A Willing Participant was recognized for the production of the mini-documentary, "Failure Disrupted: 25 Years of Closing the Achievement Gap." The piece depicts the stories of those working to close the education gap in urban education with the Chicago-based nonprofit Accelerate Institute. AWP took home a separate "Bronze Winner" award for the work as well.
"It's been great being able to partner with Accelerate Institute on this project to tell their story the way it should be told," said AWP Creative Director Mark Bloom. "Winning a Telly is a bonus on top of that."
AWP additionally took home two separate "Bronze Winner" awards for its work, "2017 Ryan Award Winner: Alexa Sorden." The mini-documentary was produced for Accelerate Institute as well. The documentary portrays the story of Sorden, who is founding principal of Concourse Village Elementary School in New York City's Bronx borough. Sorden received the Ryan Award after her school was a top performer in statewide testing.
The prestigious Telly Awards was founded in 1979. The award ceremony exists to honor excellence in video production across a variety of media. The annual Telly Awards receive 12,000 entries from advertising agencies, TV stations, production companies and publishers both from the United States and internationally.
The more than 200 judges at this year's Tellys were recruited from organizations such as Discovery Networks, VaynerMedia and Vimeo. Other winners include ESPN, HBO, National Geographic, Thrillist and Vice.
